Hello, dear readers. Long time no see. Let’s talk about alcohol today. To drink or not to drink. That is the question:)

There is a stereotype that all Russians drink a lot of vodka almost every day. That’s not true actually. I think nowadays people prefer beer, but for great events, vodka is usually more popular, and that’s fine but only if you know when to stop. So I don’t think that Russians and Ukrainians drink more alcohol than other nationalities, unfortunately, not all of them know their limits. Anyway, useful vocab is waiting for you.

Паб – pub

Пивна̀я (пивну̀шка (slang)) – beerhouse

Каба̀к (slang.) – pub

У меня̀ сѝльное похмѐлье по̀сле вчера̀шней вечерѝнки. – I’m having a strong hangover after yesterday’s party.

Перега̀р – reek of alcohol

Пивно̀й живо̀т (животик) – beer gut

Подвы̀пивший – slightly drunk

Пья̀ный – drunk

Вдрызг пья̀ный = Пья̀ный в стѐльку – to get plastered; to be drunk as a skunk

Ты вчера̀ был вдрызг пья̀ный. С тобо̀й всё хорошо̀? – You were completely plastered yesterday. Are you ok?

Он был пьян в стѐльку и боя̀лся войтѝ в дом. He was drunk as a skunk and he’s scary to enter the house.

Useful grammar: don’t forget to use the genitive case for numbers and quantities.
