Ра̀зве expresses surprise with a shade of doubt: “really, is it possible?”. Ра̀зве is used in questions when a new piece of information contradicts what the person knew or heard before.

— Didn’t you know that he is Russian?

— Isn’t it clear?

– Don’t you have a job?

— Didn’t he tell you?

Ра̀зве что (unless, except that) or Ра̀зве то̀лько (unless, if only) are used in non-interrogative sentences to express supposition.

– Unless we go there on foot.

— He looks the same as ever, except that he has put on some weight.
